RAS AL-KHAIMAH
The city was historically known as Julfar. The city has two main sections, Old Ras Al Khaimah and Nakheel, on either side of the creek, which flows through Ras Al Khaimah. Shop at the ever-popular Masafi Market, with its smorgasbord of wares: pottery, plants, carpets, fruit, vegetables and more.
Visit Ras Al Khaimah museum, to glimpse at the region's past. Climb the Hajar Mountains, to view an ancient cistern, all that now remains of the palace of Queen Zenobia of Palmyra, the original architect of the region's revolutionary falaj system of irrigation.
Take a brief stop at two archaeological grave sites dating back to 3,000 B.C. The Fort of Dhaya, where the national tribes made their last stand against the British in the 18th Century is a must visit. The date groves and hot springs of Khatt are ever popular among the tourists.
